Ravens cut 2nd-year WR Jordan Lasley

The Baltimore Ravens have a number of key competitions at training camp this year. One of the top competitions is at wide receiver, where very few roster spots are safe. Of the 12 players Baltimore had on their wide receiver depth chart, only Marquise Brown, Willie Snead and Miles Boykin are likely 100% safe from getting outright cut.

Coach John Harbaugh proved that true today as he announced the Ravens have cut wide receiver Jordan Lasley. Baltimore had selected Lasley in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL draft.

Though Lasley was involved in a fight with cornerback Cyrus Jones earlier in training camp, Harbaugh noted his release had nothing to do with the incident.

Instead, it seems to come as Baltimore is sussing out their wide receiver depth chart. With Lasley a healthy scratch all of last season and with other receivers like Boykin and Seth Roberts making big plays at training camp, the Ravens clearly didn’t feel they had a roster spot available for him.

It’s rare Baltimore admits to a failed project quite this early. Though Lasley was already on the roster bubble and had an uphill climb to make the 53-man roster, cutting him just six days into training camp still comes as a shock. The move should give players like Roberts, Jaleel Scott, Jaylen Smith and Antoine Wesley more opportunities to make the 53-man roster.
