Ravens cut former 3rd-round pick Tim Williams

The Baltimore Ravens have shown time and time again this season that their patience has worn thin. They cut second-year wide receiver Jordan Lasley early in the offseason after he didn’t make enough improvements from his rookie campaign. Now, with the defense struggling and the young outside linebackers unimpressive, it seems the team’s patience there has run out.

The Ravens today announced they have cut outside linebacker Tim Williams just four weeks into the season.

Williams, a third-round pick in the 2017 NFL draft, was a disappointment in Baltimore. He was expected to have a breakout season last year but he played in seven games, often being a healthy scratch. Coming into this season, Williams was among those called out by the coaching staff as needing to step up. In spite of more lackluster play in the preseason, Williams earned a spot on the 53-man roster, largely because of the lack of depth.

In four games, Williams played 75 defensive snaps (30.9%) but had no sacks or quarterback hits, and managed just two tackles. He didn’t play on special teams either, so he effectively was wasting a roster spot.

Baltimore worked out free agent outside linebacker Dekoda Watson this week and now appears to be looking for someone to take Williams’ roster spot.
