March 18--Baltimore Ravens cornerback Tray Walker was in critical condition after suffering severe injuries in a dirt biking accident Thursday night in Miami.
The Ravens' 2015 fourth-round draft pick spent all night in surgery and was fighting for his life, according to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport.
"Oh, my God, this is devastating news," Ravens Coach John Harbaugh said in a statement Thursday night. "Our prayers and hopes are with Tray and his family tonight."
Riding a Honda dirt bike with no lights and wearing dark clothing, Walker was heading westbound on Northwest 75th Street when he collided with a Ford Escape going southbound at around 7:50 p.m., according to Miami-Dade police.
The woman driving the other vehicle was uninjured and remained at the scence.
Police spokesman Det. Dan Ferrin said a dirt bike must have headlights and a license plate to be ridden legally on streets. He added that the Escape driver had a stop sign at the intersection.
"Detectives are trying to determine exactly what happened, if the Ford Escape took the stop sign or if she just didn't see Walker," he said.
Walker, a Miami native who played college football at Texas Southern, appeared in eight games for the Ravens last season, recording one tackle and seeing most of his action on special teams. "We still hold a lot of promise for Tray," General Manager Ozzie Newsome said at the team's season-ending news conference.
