Ravens coach rips Bengals’ Zac Taylor for shutout-avoiding field goal in Week 5

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor made some funny history during his team’s Week 5, 27-3 loss to the Baltimore Ravens by choosing to kick a shutout-avoiding field goal late in the game.

And it turns out Ravens defensive coordinator Don “Wink” Martindale is livid about the situation, as captured by ESPN’s Jamison Hensley:

“He knew what it was because it was awful quiet when I yelled it across the field. There are some people that take that as a victory. We’ll see. We’ll have plenty to talk about the next time we play them.”

Taylor’s decision was silly at the time, but it’s just as silly to apparently see a coach get this riled up over surrendering three points in a blowout win.

But again, the circumstances around Taylor’s field goal attempt hadn’t happened since 1994, so the two coaches will just have to agree to disagree.

Taylor’s Bengals and Martindale’s Ravens meet again in Week 17 to close the season and have some interesting bulletin-board material to work with.
