Ravens' Bernard Pierce arrested on suspicion of DUI, cut by team

March 18--Running back Bernard Pierce was cut by the Baltimore Ravens on Wednesday hours after he was arrested on suspicion of driving drunk, according to authorities and the team.

Pierce was pulled over by police around 2 a.m. in Townson, north of Baltimore, in a 2015 Ford Mustang, according to a news release from Baltimore County police.

Pierce, 23, allegedly failed a field sobriety test before he was arrested on suspicion of DUI and speeding infractions, according to police.

According to Ryan Mink, staff reporter for the Raven's official website, Pierce allegedly told police the team would cut him when they learned he had been arrested. Pierce was correct.

Baltimore announced on Twitter around 1 p.m. that Pierce had been released.

Pierce, who played three seasons with the Ravens, had 93 carries for 396 yards and two touchdowns during the 2014 season.

Following the Ray Rice scandal, in which Rice was captured on video knocking his then-fiancee unconscious, the Ravens have taken a no-nonsense approach with players who get in trouble with the law.

Both cornerback Victor Hampton -- arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, and defensive lineman Terrence Cody, indicted on animal cruelty charges, were cut by the team.
