The Baltimore Ravens have talked about wanting to a backup quarterback behind Lamar Jackson that fits with his play style. With Joe Flacco traded to the Denver Broncos, it left the Ravens absolutely no backup quarterback on the roster following the initial free agency period. But Baltimore did what was expected and has agreed to terms on a two-year deal with Robert Griffin III.
Free agency held few mobile quarterbacks, ultimately always making Griffin seem like the favorite option for the Ravens. Griffin had drawn considerable interest last season while on Baltimore’s roster, however.
Following last season, Griffin said he wanted to return to the Ravens to be Jackson’s primary backup. He had been a great backup for Baltimore, especially when Flacco had suffered a hip injury, thrusting him back into active status on gamedays and eventually on the field.
Griffin was ultimately active for the Ravens for only three games last season. But with Jackson getting dinged up during a game, Griffin saw the field in the regular season for the first time since 2016. He went 2-of-6 for 21 yards throughout the 2018 season.
