Ravens place 5 players on IR, including CB Tavon Young

The Baltimore Ravens are working hard to get their team trimmed down to the 53-man roster limit. Though the Ravens have made a number of roster cuts already, quite a few players are dealing with injuries that make them easy to stash.

At the roster deadline, Baltimore announced they placed five players on injured reserve.

Player Position
Kenneth Dixon RB
Tavon Young DB
Fish Smithson DB
Randin Crecelius T
Alvin Jones LB

Two of the moves to injured reserve are especially interesting.

By moving Young to injured reserve now, it appears as though they’ll end his season. Young could have been a candidate for the IR-Return designation that would have given him a chance to return to the roster after Week 8, but would have had to make the Ravens’ 53-man roster initially.

Dixon heading to injured reserve is interesting because he’s on the final year of his contract. Since it ends his 2019 season now, keeping him on injured reserve allows Baltimore to see how he responds to treatment but really only buys the team more time to potentially re-sign him at the end of the season before he’d hit free agency.
