Ravens’ QB situation considered mediocre by Touchdown Wire

The Baltimore Ravens are betting quite a bit on their quarterback situation. With starter Lamar Jackson and backup Robert Griffin III, Baltimore seems to be confident they can develop an offense that can keep up with their upper-tier defense.

However, others don’t necessarily see it the same way. Steven Ruiz at sister site Touchdown Wire put together a list of every quarterback situation in the NFL from best to worst. The Ravens were in the middle of the pack at No. 15.

Baltimore turned to Jackson in the middle of the 2018 season with then-starter Joe Flacco missing time because of a hip injury, and Jackson impressed with his athleticism.

As the Ravens altered their offense to be more conservative with the football and utilized Jackson’s skill set better, the offense became more successful. Once Flacco was healthy enough to play, Jackson had taken the starting job for good.

The biggest questions surrounding Baltimore’s offense are firmly on the shoulders of Jackson right now. While he was a dynamic playmaker last season, he was clearly lacking the polish needed to be a long-term quarterback in the NFL. So this offseason, Jackson put in work on his mechanics in an effort to deliver a more accurate pass.

At the same time, the Ravens are in the midst of installing a new offense under new offensive coordinator Greg Roman. Last week Jackson told reporters he didn’t realize there would be a totally new offense this season and that it had been getting to him. While Jackson certainly has more time to prove his status, it’s not what you want to hear from a quarterback going into his second season.

Fans could easily make an argument for Baltimore’s quarterback situation to be higher or lower. With Jackson and Griffin, the Ravens are stable at quarterback right now. On the other hand, if Jackson doesn’t show improvement this season, we could see Baltimore make a stronger push for him to seek out the help of quarterback guru next offseason.
