Ravel Morrison becomes free agent as former Manchester United starlet's contract is cancelled

Former Manchester United midfielder Ravel Morrison has seen his contract with Dutch outfit ADO Den Haag cancelled by mutual consent.

The 27-year-old has struggled to find a permanent home after years of floating around Europe.

Morrison joined West Ham after leaving United and was offered a Premier League lifeline by Sheffield United last term but failed to make an impression and left at the end of his one-year contract.

Now, after five appearances for Den Haag, he is on the lookout for another club.

"The roads of ADO Den Haag and Ravel Morrison will separate immediately," the club said in a statement.

"Morrison signed for one season at the Cars Jeans Stadium last summer. The Jamaica international has a history with Manchester United, West Ham United and Lazio Roma, among others.

"ADO Den Haag thanks Morrison for his efforts and wishes him the best of luck in his further career."

Morrison is now seeking the 12th club of his professional career and has never made more than 30 appearances for any team, despite his outstanding talent in his younger years.

Rio Ferdinand has often spoken glowingly about his talents and recalls the day Sir Alex Ferguson flagged his potential in the United academy.

The Manchester United legend recalls: “The first day I saw him, my old boss (Sir Alex Ferguson) said, ‘Have a look at this boy’.

"He was taking the mick out of everyone on the pitch when he was about 14. The manager thought he was the best player he had seen at that age.”

Morrison produced flashes of brilliance for West Ham and then Queens Park Rangers in the Championship but his lack of consistency has haunted his career.

An inability to lay down any meaningful roots will define his career as a true talent wasted and surpassed by those with less natural ability.
