'Rave' in Cavehill Country Park sparks PSNI investigation

Police have launched an investigation following a "rave" in Belfast's Cavehill Country Park.

The PSNI say officers attended to a "gathering" in the Cavehill area of North Belfast where there was "a number of people" in the early hours of Sunday morning, July 19.

DUP councillor for Oldpark Dale Pankhurst tweeted: "Concerned that an illegal rave was allowed to continue to almost 6am this morning in Cave Hill Country Park.

"I’ve spoke with the PSNI who have assured me they’ll be upping patrols and have already launched an investigation/spoke to individuals. V. distressing night for residents."

Cllr. Pankhurst added later to Belfast Live: "I was inundated with complaints about the noise.

"Some people were kept up all night by it. The noise travelled as far as Joanmount."

"I did speak with police about their response time and they have assured me they will monitor the area, and I'll be ensuring that word is kept."

In a statement, the PSNI said: "Police received several reports that a number of people had gathered in the area of Cavehill in the early hours of Sunday 19th July.

"A number of people were spoken to by police in the area, who later dispersed. An investigation is ongoing and enquiries are continuing.

"Officers will be providing additional attention to the area following the incident."
