Raul Sanllehi to be proved right about major Arsenal transfer decision

Aaron Ramsey's Italian dream could be over after just one season with reports claiming Juventus are looking to sell the ex-Arsenal midfielder.

The Welshman left the Gunners for free last summer to move to Italy after talks over a new deal at the Emirates broke down.

Arsenal were criticised for not moving quicker to secure fan favourite Ramsey's future sooner.

The impact of Arsenal's lost match-day income

However, head of football Raul Sanllehi cited the excessive wage offers that Ramsey had received, claiming that for Arsenal to match those offers, it would have created an imbalance within the squad.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Sanllehi said: "For circumstances, whatever it was, we went to the last year of his contract. That’s a problem.

“We have to be responsible on how we manage the club. One of the key things for me - and I’ve seen that happening in other clubs - one of the key things is to keep the rationality in the salary balance of the team.

“Because of our circumstances, because of not renewing Aaron on time, we were in a situation in which Aaron had incredible offers building upon the salary.

"He was really keen on staying with us, he was ready to make the effort, but at the end of the whole process, we had to be responsible for ourselves and protect the interests of Arsenal.

“We realised we were going to cause an imbalance that would have been very harmful for the team’s sake in the medium and longer-term.”

One year after his departure, the Daily Mail report that Juventus are open to offers for Ramsey.

Ramsey has only started nine league games this season and has failed to make an impression on Maurizio Sarri.

Now, Juventus could be left regretting awarding Ramsey the 400K-a-week deal they sanctioned until 2023, proving Sanllehi and Arsenal correct in the process.

The report claims that two top English clubs have been alerted to Ramsey's availability this week ahead of the summer transfer window.
