Arsenal head of football Raul Sanllehi has hinted that the reason for Mesut Ozil's absence from recent matchday squads is because he doesn't work hard enough in training.
The Spaniard was speaking at the fans forum in which the chiefs answered questions from Arsenal fans. With one of the main talking points around the Emirates Stadium being the situation around Unai Emery and Mesut Ozil, it is no surprise that Sanllehi was asked about the German midfielder.
Ozil has played just once in the Premier League this season, playing 71 minutes of the 2-2 draw with Watford last month. He has been completely left out of the squad for the past two league games against Manchester United and Bournemouth.
When asked about the midfielder, Sanllehi claimed that players are picked based on their performances in training.
“Unai’s policy has always been to play the ones that work hard in training." he told the forum (via REDaction Gooners ).
Arsenal manager Unai Emery has previously spoken about why the midfielder is not getting any game time.
"I am thinking every time the best players for the match, the best players in the squad to play and help us. When I decided he isn't in the squad it's because I think other players deserve it more," he said ahead of the Bournemouth match.
"What does he have to do? Continue working," he added
