Raul Sanllehi opens up on surprise Mikel Arteta video calls as Arsenal boss exchanges new ideas

Raul Sanllehi has explained how Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has been having 'best practice' sessions with LA Rams coach Sean McVay via video calls.

With all Premier League fixtures still suspended in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, Arteta has been speaking to his players and staff on a daily basis to ensure that the club are prepared as possible for any return of football.

There are tentative plans to resume the season in June behind closed doors, but there has been no confirmation of a concrete date to continue matches.

As the Gunners await news on the resumption of the season, Sanllehi revealed that Arteta has been speaking to Rams coach McVay, whose side are also owned by Stan Kroenke's Kroenke Sports & Entertainment group, to share ideas and attempt to learn from each other.

The Arsenal head of football explained about the series of calls between Arteta and McVay during a fans forum call with supporters on Wednesday evening,

McVay is considered as one of the brightest young minds in the NFL, steering the Rams to the 2019 Super Bowl despite being the youngest coach in the division.

The 34-year-old previously praised Gunners majority shareholder Kroenke for providing the infrastructure for him to succeed.

“I couldn’t be more grateful than to work for such a great owner," he said last year.

"Since I first met him a couple of years ago, he has been nothing but great to me.

“You’re talking about an owner that’s committed and investing and providing all the resources that you can ask for to be a successful franchise, whether it’s taking care of our players who have earned the contracts, or providing us with the resources in the building with the technology and some of the equipment that you need.

“Then when you look at this project with the stadium, it is just outstanding.

“He has such a nice way about himself too where he has had all this success but there is a quiet confidence and a humility.

“He’s one of the guys when he comes around. The guys enjoy being around him.

“I can’t imagine having a better situation to be coming to work for somebody like him who you can really appreciate that you love the human being but you like the relationship that we’ve been able to develop as we got to know each other over the last couple of years.

“And that’s really consistent with the family as a whole. It’s a great family.

"He’s been instrumental and so important for us to get to this point and hopefully sustain for years to come.”
