'Raul Sanllehi needs a statue!' Shkodran Mustafi to Monaco reports have Arsenal fans going wild

Arsenal fans are hailing the club's Head Of Football, Raul Sanllehi, for his work in the summer transfer window amid claims that Monaco want to sign Shkodran Mustafi.

The German World Cup-winning defender has become an unpopular figure among some fans due to his regular mistakes on the pitch.

Signing in a deal worth in excess of £35million from Valencia in 2016, he has struggled to justify that price tag and the Gunners were arguably a stronger defence without him last season.

Unai Emery reflects on loss to Lyon

It was injuries to Hector Bellerin and Rob Holding that ultimately caused Unai Emery's back line to become less stable as Arsenal failed to reach the top four and lost to Chelsea in the Europa League final.

French outlet L'Equipe claim that Monaco want to sign the centre-back at a price that would see the Gunners recoup much of what they spent on him three years ago.

Sanllehi, fresh from reports that he is set to bring Nicolas Pepe to the Emirates Stadium after signing up Dani Ceballos and William Saliba, has been praised by supporters begging the Ligue 1 side to take Mustafi off Arsenal's hands.

Here is a selection of their reactions on Twitter.

Mustafi has suffered boos from Arsenal fans during the summer on the pre-season tour of the USA and at the Emirates Cup as the Gunners were beaten by Lyon.

He has so far played 112 games for the north London club, lifting the FA Cup and finishing as a runner-up in the EFL Cup and Europa League.
