Raul Jimenez backed to make Old Trafford move amid Manchester United links

Former Chile international Ivan Zamorano is backing Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Raul Jimenez to join Manchester United this summer, insisting that his current club is not big enough for him to fulfil his potential.

Since joining Wolves in the summer of 2018, following their promotion from the Championship, Jimenez has blossomed into one of the Premier League 's most lethal strikers, scoring 26 league goals since the start of last season.

This season, the Mexican, who turns 29 next month, has been a stand-out figure for the Molineux club, scoring 22 goals in 44 matches across all competitions.

It is that sort of goal-scoring form that is leading to speculation about the striker's future, with reports claiming that a host of clubs, including Real Madrid, are keen on landing his signature this summer.

But even though United have not identified the former Atletico Madrid man as a priority target ahead of the summer transfer window, former Chile star Zamorano has suggested that United should explore the possibility of signing the Mexico international in a bid to bolster their attacking ranks.

"For me, Wolverhampton are too small, the best option for Raul is to continue progressing; he can only aspire to the Europa League," Zamorano told Medio Tiempo.

"He has to think about playing the Champions League, being a world class striker, empowering himself at a professional level and playing for a team like Real Madrid.

"Today, if I were Raul, I wouldn’t think twice. Karim Benzema is a great player, but Jimenez has nothing to envy him; what’s more, Manchester United don’t have a nine, there he is, he knows the league and the team needs a number nine."

Since joining Wolves, initially on loan from Benfica almost two years ago, Jimenez has scored a total 39 goals in all competitions.
