‘Ratings are in the toilet’: Seth Meyers gives it back to Donald Trump after he called him a ‘deranged lunatic’ for talking about ‘electric catapults on aircraft carriers’

Donald Trump is not the strongest advocate for free speech. Throughout his second term as President of the United States, he has repeatedly shown how far he is willing to go to silence critics. His latest targets? Comedians. First, it was Jimmy Kimmel, and now it’s Seth Meyers.

Seth Meyers is one of the few comedians who still openly mock Donald Trump and criticise his administration, and why wouldn’t he? The Dorito dictator provides plenty of reasons to do so. But Donald Trump does not like that. With his ample free time during the ongoing government shutdown, Trump took a swipe at Seth Meyers for his criticism of him, using harsh (debatable) words. After admitting to disliking watching him on screen previously, Trump, on November 2, 2025, reiterated his disdain for Meyers via a post on Truth Social.

In the post, Donald Trump referred to Seth Meyers as “the least talented person to perform live in the history of television.” He also criticised Meyers for his repeated discussions about “electric catapults on aircraft carriers,” calling him a “truly deranged lunatic” for it. He expressed his dissatisfaction with NBC’s decision to keep working with Seth Meyers, claiming he had “no talent” and “no ratings.” He also pointed out that he was “100% anti-Trump,” which he suggested was “probably illegal.” Can you believe this person? Since when is having an opinion against the law?

Seth Meyers’ life hasn’t changed much since Trump made these ridiculous comments about him, but he is making sure that Trump knows his place. He is clapping back at the orange dictator by highlighting the issues he has caused among the American people in the past couple of weeks, including the recent cuts to SNAP benefits that help thousands of Americans. He is also acknowledging Trump’s comments about him while noting that he can be called “untalented” and “deranged,” but it is Trump who is obsessed with “electric catapults on aircraft carriers,” not him. Meyers is referring to the hundreds of times Trump has spoken about the topic publicly in the last couple of months.

Most importantly, Seth Meyers is highlighting what Trump’s repeated obnoxious comments are doing to the people of America, noting that he is making people talk about the things he is talking about, resulting in all of them sounding “crazy.” He adds:

“What we should be talking about instead is the government shutdown you’re not solving or the food assistance you refuse to fund. Working families are struggling while you renovate your bathroom and you build your ballroom and that’s why your approval ratings are in the toilet.”
