Rating Jurgen Klopp's transfers last summer at Liverpool

The 2018/19 season was one to behold for Liverpool.

It of course culminated in captain Jordan Henderson hoisting the Champions League trophy above his head in Madrid but along the way there was so much to admire.

Stunning European comebacks and a sensational run in the Premier League which saw the Reds play some scintillating and resolute football on their way to finishing second in the domestic competition and accumulating 97 points, having only been beaten once. That points total has never been bettered by any team finishing second in European club football history.

During that incredible run a number of individual players shone time and again in Jurgen Klopp's side and at the end of the season some of those men were handed highly-coveted awards - such as Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane winning the Golden Boot and Virgil van Dijk the PFA Players' Player of the Year while Alisson won the Golden Glove trophy.

The Brazilian goalkeeper was a new arrival at Anfield this season along with Fabinho, Naby Keita and Xherdan Shaqiri with Klopp spending £170million to bring in the quartet to achieve success and here is a look at how they all fared in their debut campaigns.

Alisson Becker - 9

The shot-stopper has been a massive hit since his £65million move from Roma last summer. He has brought assurances to the backline and has proved just what a dependable operator between the sticks he is. The Brazilian was instrumental in Liverpool's rock-solid defensive set-up this season that shipped just 22 goals in the Premier League. He has made a number of key saves to see the Reds achieve success too, not least thinking to Napoli in the final minutes of the last group game which saw his side qualify into the knockout stages of the European Cup, which they eventually won.

Fabinho - 8

A rocky start to life at Anfield is now firmly a distant memory for the midfield warden. The former Monaco star has been an integral part of the Liverpool squad adding steel and vision to an often workmanlike engine room. His defensive work, the way he takes the ball of his opponents toes and thunders into challenges while also dictating the play and driving the Reds forward are all wonderful elements of his game he displayed in front of the faithful Kop time and again during this season with huge benefit to Klopp's side.

Naby Keita - 6

The Guniean has made a stuttering start to life as a Liverpool player. Keita has shown flashes of his undoubted quality but the sprinkling of stardust was too infrequent early on. Then just as the creative midfielder looked like he was finding his feet with the Reds he suffered a serious and unfortunate injury against Bayern Munich which kept him out for the rest of the season. Time is most certainly on the £52m man's side however and Klopp knows he will have a top player on their hands when he eventually gets to grips with the rigours of his manager's demands.

Xherdan Shaqiri - 6

Shaqiri would have scored higher had the tone set by his first three months at Liverpool carried on through the rest of the season. The Switzerland international was making a real impact at Anfield before curiously enduring a subdued spell and playing just over 80 minutes of domestic football from January onwards. A match-winning performance off the bench against Manchester United has been Shaqiri's finest hour and hopefully that spark is sign of things Klopp can bring out of the playmaker next season.
