Rathcoole arson incident being investigated by police

A woman has been ‘evacuated’ from a house after it was targeted in an arson attack, police say.

Detectives are appealing for information following a ‘report of an arson incident’ at a house in the Loughmoney Park area of Rathcoole in the early hours of this morning (Saturday).

Detective Sergeant Toni Lenaghan said: “At around 4.00 am this morning, we received a report that the back door and a bin at a house in the area had been set on fire.

“Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service, who were in attendance, extinguished the fire and a woman in the property at the time was safely evacuated.

“Enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area at the time of the incident, to contact detectives on 101 and quote reference number 276 of 15/5/21.”

The police added that people can also report any information online using the non-emergency reporting form via www.psni.police.uk/makeareport or by contacting Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at crimestoppers-uk.org.
