Goals from Takumi Minamino and Joel Matip earned a huge victory on the south coast for the much-changed Reds, who are now just one point behind table-topping Manchester City going into the final game of the top-flight campaign.
Liverpool, who have already won the FA Cup and Carabao Cup and are in the Champions League final against Real Madrid in Paris on May 28, must now win at home to Wolves on Sunday and hope City drop points at home to an Aston Villa side managed by Anfield legend Steven Gerrard.
