Thai shuttler Ratchanok "May" Intanon has withdrawn from the YONEX GAINWARD German Open 2022 after she has been tested positive for Covid-19, using an antigen test.

According to the Badminton World Federation, the world's No 8 player in women's badminton was scheduled to compete with He Bingjiao of China, the world's No 9, in the quarterfinals of the BWF World Tour Super 300 event in Mülheim, Germany, on Friday.

Ratchanok's opponent received a walkover.

The Thai badminton star, 27, is now waiting for the result of her RT-PCR test. She will have to enter quarantine for either seven or 10 days, if the result still comes back positive.

If the result is negative, she would be able to compete in the YONEX All England Open Badminton Championships next week.

Ratchanok became the first Thai to become No 1 in women's singles after winning the Singapore Open final in April 2016.
