Ratchanok bids to end dry spell

Ratchanok Intanon will be looking to win her first Super 1000 crown while mixed doubles stars Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai will be chasing their third straight title at the US$850,000 Indonesia Open on Sunday.

Second seed Ratchanok, seeking her first title in almost two years, takes on An Se-Young of South Korea in Bali.

Ratchanok rallied to overcome Indian third seed Pusarla V Sindhu 15-21, 21-9, 21-14 in the semi-finals on Saturday and dedicated the victory to her mother who passed away in August.

The 26-year-old Ratchanok won her last tournament at the Indonesia Masters -- a Super 500 event -- in January last year.

An, meanwhile, denied a chance for an all-Thai showdown, edging fifth seed Pornpawee Chochuwong 21-19, 21-19 in a gruelling encounter.

The Korean is hoping to complete a Bali double after her victory at last week's Indonesia Masters.

Meanwhile, in-form Dechapol and Sapsiree are gunning for their third successive title following their victories at the Indonesia Masters and the Hylo Open in Germany earlier this month.

Top seeds Dechapol and Sapsiree needed three games to defeat Ko Sung-Hyun and Eom Hye-Won of South Korea 21-17, 18-21, 21-14 to earn their fourth final appearance in their last five events.

They meet third seeds Yuta Watanabe and Arisa Higashino in today's final after the Japanese pair downed Mathias Christiansen and Alexandra Boje of Denmark 21-16, 21-12.

In the women's doubles, Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai lost to home stars Greysia Polii and Apriyani Rahayu, the second seeds, 18-21, 14-21.

The Indonesians meet Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida of Japan in the final after the fourth seeds beat Baek Ha-Na and Lee Yu-Rim of South Korea 21-19, 21-18 in just under an hour.

Men's doubles top seeds Marcus Gideon and Kevin Sukamuljo defeated sixth seeds Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty of India 21-16, 21-18 to progress to the final.

The Indonesian pair, who will be bidding to win their fourth straight title, will face either Akira Koga and Taichi Saito or Takuro Hoki and Yugo Kobayashi, both from Japan, for the title.

In the men's singles semi-finals, second seed Viktor Axelsen advanced to the final after he beat sixth seed Jonatan Christie of Indonesia 21-19, 21-15.

The Olympic champion plays the winner of the second semi-final match between Singapore's Loh Kean Yew and fellow Dane Rasmus Gemke.

The tournament is the second of three back-to-back competitions culminating in the season-ending World Tour Finals next week.
