Rashford, Fernandes and Casemiro among 15 Man United stars absent for Leeds United friendly

Manchester United will be without a string of international stars when they meet Leeds United in Wednesday night's friendly in Norway. Daniel Farke will take charge of his first game in charge of the Whites when they face the Red Devils at the Ullevaal Stadion on Wednesday in a match that will see both clubs in pre-season action for the first time this summer.

But according to our sister site the MEN, Manchester United will leave 15 internationals back at their Carrington training base as they began pre-season training later than the rest of the squad. Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Dalot, Victor Lindelof, Anthony Elanga, Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, Scott McTominay, Alejandro Garnacho, Tyrell Malacia, Facundo Pellistri, Alex Telles and Eric Bailly were all involved in international action for their respective countries during June and were given extra time off as a result.

While the Red Devils players who were not on international duty and academy youngsters reported back for pre-season training last week, those who were away representing their countries are entitled to a three-week summer break which means they will miss the Leeds game. They are due to link up with the rest of the squad in time to travel to Edinburgh for a friendly against French side Lyon next Tuesday, and from there the party will fly out to New York for the start of their pre-season trip to the USA.

One player who make his Manchester United debut against Leeds is £60m summer signing from Chelsea, Mason Mount, who did take part in the Red Devils' first training sessions as he had missed out on England's European Championship qualifying wins against Malta and North Macedonia last month due to injury. After Wednesday's game in Oslo, Leeds' next pre-season outing sees the Whites face Monaco at York City's LNER Community Stadium on Saturday, July 22.
