Rashford and Sancho in sprint race as Foden jokes with Grealish plus more moments spotted in England training

With Euro 2020's opening fixtures fast approaching, England are ramping up their training ahead of their first Group D clash with Croatia.

And with their Manchester United and Manchester City contingent all now fully integrated in the squad, Gareth Southgate is no longer limited by fitness issues that restricted his selections for their two warm-up friendlies. Now, it's up to players like Phil Foden, Raheem Sterling, John Stones and Marcus Rashford to prove they are ready to start against Croatia.

They will face competition in a strong squad, and there is also an added background to the preparations as a number of players are subject to transfer rumours. Harry Kane and Jack Grealish are being linked with City, while Jadon Sancho is on United's radar.

So while players are quick to play down any speculation, fans will be looking closely for any hints they can get while United and City players are brushing shoulders in the England camp.

As cameras were allowed into the opening section of England training on Wednesday - this is what we spotted:

No Maguire

Twenty-five England players were out on the grass at St George's Park, but the one player missing was United captain Harry Maguire. The defender remains touch-and-go over whether he will be able to be involved in the tournament, so it's hardly encouraging that Maguire once again missed training on Wednesday.

England confirmed he was working in the gym as he continues to recover from injury, placing his availability for the Croatia game in doubt.

Warm-up drills

To kick off the session, the squad lined up in groups of four or five for some warm-up drills, joking along in the process. Maybe John Stones took the chance to get a closer look at Harry Kane, with the pair in the same group, while Phil Foden was alongside Jack Grealish and former City academy teammate Jadon Sancho.

Maybe the training pitch isn't the time for any transfer talks - as Rio Ferdinand has suggested is common among players - but seeing players work alongside each other could be an encouraging sign for fans hopeful of seeing transfer targets getting on well with their existing players.

At the races

Next up, the players lined up in two groups, setting off on short sprints to a cone and back in one vs one races. Marcus Rashford narrowly beat Jadon Sancho in a hotly anticipated match-up as the players could potentially be lining up on the same side in the Premier League next season.

Other races saw friends John Stones and Kyle Walker battle, while Luke Shaw raced Tyrone Mings, Phil Foden outpaced Brighton's Ben White, and Raheem Sterling was against Mason Mount.

Sharp footwork

Any suggestion that City or United players were still feeling the effects of their European finals last month were put to bed as the players then embarked on a possession drill between two sides. There was some sharp footwork from the blonde-haired Foden, while Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford also got out of some tight spaces.

Fingers crossed, all players will be in peak condition for the Croatia clash at Wembley on Sunday.
