Rashan Gary calls Michigan State ‘little sister’ on National TV

The disrespect between Michigan and Michigan State continued this week as Rashan Gary referred to Michigan State as ‘little sister’ on national television.

Gary was on the Rich Eisen show discussing his draft process when he was asked about the matchup between the Wolverines and Spartans last season when Devin Bush stomped on the Spartans logo before the game.

Gary responded in typical Michigan fashion:

“That’s just a game I wish I was there for. Every time you go play our little sister … little sister … It’s always the type of passion, the anger you have for that type of game. Just seeing my brother go out there with his emotions I would’ve had times a hundred, it hurts. But we came out with a win and we own Michigan. Period.

Just so everybody knows out there, for you State fans, University of Michigan Wolverines, that’s our state. Period.”

Of course, LJ Scott first coined the ‘little sister’ nickname when he used it to disparage Michigan last season. Personally, I will say that this particular insult needs to go away, as it is inherently sexist and pretty nasty. Mike Hart’s original ‘little brother’ insult is demeaning and disrespectful but was at least not disparaging to women.
