Rash of vehicle thefts reported on West Side

Chicago police are warning residents about 10 West Side vehicle thefts reported since May 13, 2019.

Police are warning residents about a series of vehicle thefts over the past month in Lawndale, Homan Square and East Garfield Park on the West Side.

In most of the incidents, victims left their parked vehicles and came back to find they’d been stolen, according to a community alert from Chicago police. In some cases, the suspects have also taken vehicles that were left running unattended.

The thefts took place:

  • About 10:15 a.m. June 5 in the 3400 block of West Roosevelt Road;
  • About 1:30 p.m. June 2 in the 600 block of South Independence Boulevard;
  • Between 10 p.m. May 30 and 8 a.m. May 31 in the 3800 block of West Gladys Avenue;
  • Between 9 a.m. May 29 and noon June 2 in the 3400 block of West Polk Street;
  • About 10 a.m. May 25 in the 3500 block of West Grenshaw Street;
  • About 6 a.m. May 25 in the 3400 block of West Roosevelt;
  • Between 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. May 24 in the 3700 block of West Polk;
  • About 9 a.m. May 24 in the 600 block of South Independence;
  • Between 3 a.m. and 11:44 a.m. May 18 in the 900 block of South Lawndale Avenue; and
  • About 5:30 p.m. May 13 in the 3500 block of West Arthington Street.

One of the suspects was described as a man between 25 and 30 years old, police said. The other was also a male.

Anyone with information about the thefts is asked to call Area North detectives at 312-744-8263.
