Rarest baby names in the UK, from Aphrodite and Beverley for girls to Majesty and Neymar for boys

For expectant parents out there who want to choose something a little different for their baby’s name, you can’t get much more unique than this list.

According to research from experts at Play Like Mum who delved into data from the Office for National Statistics, these names are among the rarest in the UK. Unlike the most popular names of this year, which include the likes of Lily, Olivia, Muhammad and Noah, you may never have heard of more than a few of them.

Names registered two times or fewer are withheld by the ONS, so this research looked at a list of names that have been registered just three times across England and Wales. From a list of three thousand, researchers narrowed the names down to a top 100, The Mirror reports .

Some names on the boys list have taken their inspiration from famous sources of centuries past, from Icarus of Greek mythology fame to Shakespeare’s Othello. There’s plenty of Greek goddess inspiration over on the girls’ side too, with Aphrodite and Despina both on the list.

Several other boy names are recognisable due to their famous namesakes - such as Neymar and Drake. But others are more unusual, with Cloud, Glory, Lion and Majesty being particular stand-outs.

Celebrity inspiration is also evident on the list of girl names - including Cheryl, a name that will be more than familiar to Geordies. The rest of the list ranges from more traditional names such as Beverley and Julianne, to ones that are more unconventional but have a sweet meaning behind them like Happiness, Peace and Bloom.

Meanwhile, Fox, Pebbles, Rehab and Tuba are among the most unique names on the girls’ list. Here’s the full top 100:
