Rare opportunity to visit Knowsley Hall as it opens for one week only

For one week only, the Earl and Countess of Derby will be welcoming visitors to Knowsley Hall, the stately Grade II listed property in Prescot .

As one of the grandest stately homes in the region, the building is a popular venue for weddings, conferences, charity balls and award ceremonies but it is only ever open to the public for five days each year.

During its annual guided tours week in September, which will run from September 13 - 20 this year, visitors will be able to see behind the scenes at the private residence owned by the Stanley family.

There will be a bespoke art exhibition entitled A Passion for the Turf, which will showcase equestrian paintings from the family's private collection that are not usually on public display, as well as men's fashion items including outfits worn by Lord Derby and his two sons, racing jockey silks and racing trophies

There will also be a collection of the Countess of Derby’s haute couture racing outfits, complete with the back story on each item, in a collection titled Dresses for Ladies Day.

The collection will include the Lucky Suit, popular because it was worn when racehorse Ouija Board won the Epsom Oaks in 2004, alongside outfits worn to meet The Queen.

The Countess of Derby said: "Lord Derby and I and the entire team at Knowsley Hall are so passionate about this year's exhibition as our family's keen interest in horse racing stems way back to 1780 when the 12 Earl gave his name to the famous Derby horse race.

"We are so excited to welcome guests into our home and to share our stories and heritage."

There will be an exclusive evening tour taking place for the first time on Friday, September 13.
