A RUGGED, potent, off-road truck may not immediately spring to mind when you think of Lamborghini.
But that’s exactly what this painstakingly restored LM002 is – and now this special beast could be yours for £285,000.
Outrageous even by Lamborghini’s standards, this super SUV was produced between 1986 and 1993, featuring a 450bhp 5.2-litre V12 from the Countach, a 290-litre fuel tank and a muscular riveted aluminium and fibreglass body mounted on a steel spaceframe chassis.
Only 301 of the monsters were built, making the LM002 one of the rarest machines ever to come from the Italian supercar marque’s Sant’Agata base, too.
A left-hand drive example, this was the 40th model to roll off the production line, finished in Blu Acupulco Metallizato and trimmed inside in light grey leather.
One of this particular car’s claims to fame is that it was driven by “The Stig” for a special Lamborghini edition of BBC’s Top Gear back in 2003.
The 1987 model fetched up at Hertfordshire-based historic supercar specialists Bell Sport & Classic last year as a failed restoration with components in multiple boxes.
The rebuild involved manufacturing parts and tools from scratch, as well as hours of detailed engineering work on the suspension and transmission. The interior was carefully cleaned and minor tears and scuffs were repaired, while the exterior was given a full respray in the original finish.
Bell Sport & Classic managing director Tim Kearns said: “Whoever buys this LM002 will have an absolutely outstanding period-correct example of one of the most outrageous cars in Lamborghini’s history.”
