Rare house on market comes with its own 16th century castle ruins and several waterfalls

If you’ve ever wanted to live like royalty, a property that has just gone on the market might be your dream home.

The eight-bedroom sandstone townhouse sits on the banks of Loch Lomond in Arden, West Dunbartonshire, and is part of the Bannachra Estate.

And while the house itself isn’t quite a palace, it does come with 94.7-acre grounds that feature some interesting additions – including castle ruins.

Within the property’s boundaries are the remains of a castle that dates back to the 16th century and is recognised as a medieval tower house that would have been three storeys in its prime.

There are also extensive gardens on the site, as well as a pond, a cottage, outbuildings in “various states of repair”, a river with fishing rights, several waterfalls and woodland which blooms with bluebells in spring.

And if the property’s outdoor space isn’t enough to pique your interest, the grand house itself has six bathrooms, a butler’s pantry, a five-oven aga, as well as a brand-new living room built with oak from the woodland.

There are a further two bedrooms in the separate cottage, which could be used as guest accommodation if planning permission is granted.

The sprawling property is being sold by Baird Lumsden, the specialist rural property arm of DM Hall Chartered Surveyors.

Jennifer Campbell, head of estate agency at Baird Lumsden DM Hall, said: "Properties of this nature - in which all the component parts meld naturally into a perfect whole - are, frankly, as rare as hen's teeth in a rural market which has seen demand for estates soar, and Bannachra is bound to spark intense interest, not only domestically but internationally.

"Set in Scotland's first national park, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs, the estate is surrounded by some of the most attractive countryside in the UK, with lochs, mountains, waterfalls, grand Victorian architecture and innumerable outdoor pursuits."

She added: "Nature has taken a hand in Bannachra's embellishment, with snowdrops and daffodils in the early spring, bright rhododendrons and azaleas as the year wears on, the delicacy of wild orchids and the particular pleasure of bluebell woods.

"Formal gardens counterpoint the majesty of the wildland."

The property’s price is only being disclosed to those who register their interest in the house.
