Rare home for sale on Love Actually mews where Mark confesses his love for Juliet

St Luke’s Mews: home to Mark’s grand doorstep gesture in the 2003 film

A deep-pocketed buyer looking to emulate Love Actually's "Just because it's Christmas" doorstep romance might like to know about a rare home for sale in the same Notting Hill mews.

Although it might be wise to consider a more appropriate love confessional than the one in the 2003 Christmas classic.

Located across the narrow, cobbled mews street from the home lived in by Keira Knightley's character Juliet, the three-bedroom apartment for sale has a window overlooking the spot where Mark played by Andrew Lincoln arrives to blast carols on his CD player and use placards to confess his love for his best friend’s wife.

At £3.35 million, the St Luke's Mews flat now for sale is significantly more expensive than the £750,000 to £1 million average price the street would have commanded when the film was released.

Giles Barrett, head of sales at Domus Nova, says the apartment would have been priced around £1 million in 2003 yet, according to LonRes, there have been just 16 recorded sales in the intervening 18 years.

"People obviously stick around when they buy here," says Barrett.

Arranged over two floors, with commercial space below, the 1,900sq ft home has entrances on both St Luke's Mews and All Saints Road.

Mews houses, such as those on St Luke's Mews, tend to be on the smaller size as they were typically add-ons to the grandest houses in the most desirable parts of town, says Barrett.

"They're deliberately off the beaten track," he adds. “To compare [with the 1,900sq ft flat for sale], the last mews house we sold was 1,183sq ft; the ones before were 1,700 and 1,300sq ft."

With a white, art gallery-style interior, the three-bedroom apartment was bought in 2015 by its current owner to enjoy London life — "in a fun, vibrant patch," says Barrett — but it has become surplus to requirements recently and they have decided to sell.

The home is located between Westbourne Park and Ladbroke Grove Tube stations, and sits two streets east of the bustling Portobello Road.

A skylight above the bathtub in the master suite is a suitably glamorous feature, while doors on this level lead from the bedroom to a private roof garden.
