Rare glimpse of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's mystery nanny with baby Archie

Eagle-eyed royal fans spotted a very important figure in the background when Meghan Markle and Prince Harry arrived in South Africa for their royal tour - Archie's mysterious nanny.

The couple haven't officially announced any details about the woman they have hired to help raise their son, but we caught a glimpse of her as the family stepped off the plane .

Meghan was carrying her son, who was wearing an adorable white bobble hat, as the family walked through the airport, she was following closely behind.

A source told the Sun : "Meghan is a very hands-on mum but the new nanny is a godsend. She is extremely professional, with a number of nannying years under her belt, and has fitted into the family really well."

Archie's nanny is part of Meghan and Harry's 13-people strong 13 for the 10-day trip - including travel coordinators and a social media operative.

She will be looking after the little royal, who is seventh in line to the throne, on occasions when Meghan and Harry attend events together.

Archie and the nanny are based at the High Commissioner’s residence in Cape Town for the first part of the trip, and Meghan popped back there this afternoon when Harry went off to a solo event.

It is normal for royal parents to take their nanny away with them on royal tour, and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's Norland nanny Maria Borrallo is a regular on overseas trips.

The nanny joined the family when they went to Nice to stay in Elton John's villa last month.

Royal fans are desperately hoping we'll get to see Archie at some point during the trip, however Meghan and Harry haven't announced when we will see him.

Unlike the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, who include child-friendly engagements into their itineraries, the Sussexes don't have anything for Archie in their trip.

However he could make a surprise appearance at some point - with Meghan and Harry saying they will "see how they feel" .

A palace source said: "The Duke and Duchess are very much looking forward to experiencing South Africa as a family but have no concrete plans as to when those opportunities will arise.

"Archie is only five months old so it’s very much a case of seeing how they are all feeling when they arrive and of course there are the security issues to fully consider when travelling with a small child."

Even though we haven't officially seen him yet, we did see him in unofficially snaps taken when the family arrived at the airport in Cape Town.

They travelled commercial after a summer of criticism for their use of private planes, and their British Airways flight from London Heathrow was delayed.
