Rare footy shirt swiped from National Football Museum in Manchester

A rare footy shirt has been swiped from the National Football Museum in Manchester.

The Celtic jersey - which is nearly 30 years old - is said to be worth around £600.

It was worn by the Scottish side in the 1991/1992 season.

It belongs to lifelong Hoops fan Paul Lamb from Glasgow.

He said he's devastated about the theft, which museum bosses say is being investigated by police.

Paul, 44, took to Twitter to alert collectors and fans who may come across the shirt - one of his prized posessions.

He's spent eight years building up his collection of football strips. He has Celtic shirts from as far back as 1970.

Paul said the stolen shirt is one of his favourites.

It was on display at the museum as part of the ‘Strip! How football got shirty’ exhibition.

The collared Umbro shirt sports a striking green, white and grey design.

It's not to everyone's taste. The jazzy strip was actually in the 'Hall of Shame' section of the exhibition.

Paul said the museum contacted him via email on Sunday to tell him the news.

It is understood the shirt was stolen from the third floor on Saturday (February 1) when the museum was open.

Paul said: “Most of the football memorabilia collecting world are very helpful and I’m sure they would do everything to see it returned, as if it was one of their own.”

A spokesman for the museum confirmed the incident had been reported to Greater Manchester Police.
