Rare dog searches for new home after being dumped in old factory

Neglected, malnourished and terrified of human touch, this poor pooch has been subjected to the worst of humanity.

Zoe, a Komondor cross, was found abandoned in an old factory in Hungary with four other dogs, one of which was sadly dead.

After arriving in the UK in July last year, the rare breed was completely sheared due to her coat being in such awful condition.

The Kennel Club recognises Komondors, otherwise known as mop dogs, as a fairly rare breed.

They can be easily recognised by their mop-like coat which was developed to protect them from extreme weathers in Hungary.

Zoe, who is now completely blind, is currently in foster care in Lincolnshire but can be rehomed anywhere in the UK through Huns Dogs for Rehoming.

A statement, shared on Blind Dog Rescue UK, reads: "Zoe is a sensitive girl who can be shy around visitors coming to her home but she is fine once she has got used to them.

"She tends to be more wary of men and children therefore she needs an adult-only home.

"She is an extremely kind dog with a gentle nature.

"Zoe gets along well with other dogs, loves to play and wants to make friends with them.

"She is toilet trained, walks nicely on the lead and travels well on the back seat of the car.

Zoe has been described as a 'sensitive girl' (Blind Dog Rescue UK)

"She can be left for a couple of hours without problem.

"Her hair needs regular brushing and grooming.

The two-year-old needs an understanding owner who can show her not everybody wants to hurt her.

Unfortunately, she was returned by her first UK owner after spending 10 months in their home.

The statement adds: "Recently, in her current home, Zoe bit the owner when they wanted to put the collar on and also had an incident with a smaller dog on a walk.

"However, Zoe has never showed aggression before and this is completely out of character and is only showing that Zoe is in an extremely anxious state.

"Her high anxiety levels are probably due to the following facts -she was recently given up by her owner who had her for 10 months.

"Her current home has building works opposite them Monday to Friday and Zoe is terrified of the noise which escalated to a point where she refuses to go out for walks.

"Plus her eyesight deteriorated significantly in the past four weeks.

"The mixture of having to adjust to a new home and the building works that she is afraid of and the confusion of going blind is causing constant stress to her and she is really struggling at the moment."

Zoe needs to be given time to settle in to her new home - and will quickly transform into a playful pup when she realises she is in safe hands.

"She is a young playful relatively big dog therefore she needs a fit owner who is able to handle her when she pulls on the lead," the statement adds.

"She needs a quiet peaceful environment as opposed to busy city life."
