Rare closure order imposed on Weston-super-Mare property after serious assaults, violence and drug offences

A Weston-super-Mare property has been slapped with a rare closure order due to frequent 'serious attacks' and drug offences over the past nine months.

The ruling means no one will be allowed to enter the property on Manilla Crescent, which will be shut down for three months.

Police received repeated reports of drug offences, theft, serious assaults and violence at the address.

Avon and Somerset Constabulary has only used the recently-enacted anti-social behaviour order powers a handful of times.

During the first two cases, two houses in BS5 - 17-storey Croydon House in Croydon Street, and nearby Lansdowne Court in Easton Road were shut.

And the third saw a troubled tower block in Barton Hill partially closed for three months.

A force spokesperson said: “Today (Thursday 24 September), North Somerset Magistrates’ Court granted a Full Closure Order at an address in Manilla Crescent, Weston-super-Mare.

"The order is in place for at least three months and has a current expiry date of 24 December 2020.

“The closure order prevents all access to the property, and has been applied for and granted because of the frequency of incidents that have taken place in the property and surrounding area during the past nine months.

“These incidents had included drug offences, theft, serious assaults, violence and offensive/nuisance behaviour that caused residents and businesses distress.”
