Rare Blue Moon to be visible from Glasgow this weekend - here's when to catch a glimpse

A rare Blue Moon will be visible in the sky this week - also known as the Sturgeon Moon.

The moon isn't named after our First Minister and it won't actually be blue but it's still a special occasion for moongazers.

A Blue Moon refers to the very rare occasion when a full moon appears for the second time in the same month.

The Full Moon expected on Sunday is being called a Blue Moon because it will be the third Full Moon during the Northern Hemisphere's summer season when there are usually just three moons per season.

The Sturgeon Moon is the name for August's Full Moon because North American fishing tribes would see the appearance of lots of sturgeon fish around this time of year, according to The Sun.

We should be able to see the Blue Sturgeon Moon before sunset on August 22 with its brightness increasing as the night grows darker.

We can't wait to try to catch a glimpse!
