Rare Australian black swans spotted on Crosby Marina

Rare black swans have been spotted on Crosby Marina.

Keren Fazer shared some amazing photos of the creatures swimming on the marina and said she was thrilled to see the animals.

Keren said: "I've never seen them before, It's very rare, I looked it up and it said there are only 40 wild ones in UK."

It's not known how long the animals have been on the lake, but they are believed to have arrived a few weeks ago, according to reports on social media.

In the photos, taken on Monday, the swans striking red beaks and black feathers can be clearly seen.

Many others shared Keren's joy on Facebook at seeing the birds on the water.

Jacqui Burden said: "We have been watching these for the past week. They are incredibly beautiful."

Lynz Cheeseman said: "My daughter absolutely loves them. Loves them more when they chase all the other swans on the lake."

Lydia Rimmer-Lockett said: "Been here for about 5/6 weeks now, they seem to like it, but they rule the roost of that little lake!"

The swans have also reportedly been spotted on Southport Lake in recent weeks.

The vast majority of swans in Britain are white, but black swans have also been spotted sporadically.

The black swan, also called cygnus atratus, is native to Australia, a few of the birds have made their way to the UK, but the sight of them is still rare.
