Rare 50p coins enter circulation in Bristol area - but there's only 10 of them so far

Shoppers should keep an eye out for rare Peter Rabbit coins now they have entered circulation in Bristol.

The Royal Mint produced 50p coins depicting the Beatrix Potter creation this year, but they were not intended for general release.

However, volunteers from across the UK have taken it upon themselves to circulate the coins themselves - and Bristol and Bath have started receiving their own batch of 10.

Steve Fraser sent an email to Bristol Live on Saturday to explain his part in the effort.

The GreatBritishCoinHunt.com volunteer wrote: "I have personally put two of these coins into circulation today... Now Joe or Josephine Bloggs in our local area may be lucky enough to pick one of these coins up in their change!"

Mr Fraser said the coins are reportedly worth up to thousands of pounds.
