Raptors reserve OG Anunoby out for start of playoffs after emergency appendectomy

The Toronto Raptors suffered a huge blow to its reserve unit Thursday night after back-up forward OG Anunoby became ill and needed an emergency appendectomy. His timetable for return is unknown, but Toronto will be without the 6-foot-8 big man when the Raptors begin a best-of-seven playoff series with the Orlando Magic on Saturday at 5 p.m., at Scotiabank Arena.

The loss of Anunoby will present the Raptors with somewhat of a void in what has been a strong bench this season. Toronto will likely look to recently-signed veteran center Eric Moreland to help fill in where needed, but it certainly will not have the same luxury, nor size, it had with Anunoby available. Although Moreland is 6-foot-10, the Raptors will still be without the inside power Anunoby brings to the floor.

The 21-year-old Anunoby, a second-year player out of Indiana who is from the United Kingdom, was averaging seven points and three rebounds per game in 67 games this season.
