Raptors fan ‘Plant Guy’ has a foolproof plan to keep Kawhi Leonard in Toronto

The Raptors’ gamble to trade for one guaranteed year of Kawhi Leonard’s services paid off handsomely on Thursday night, as Leonard delivered the franchise’s first NBA championship and captured a second career NBA Finals MVP award.

The Raptors would conceivably start the 2019-20 season as title favorites if they can keep their team together – but it remains to be seen whether Leonard will re-sign with Toronto or leave in free agency this summer. Leonard has long been linked with the Clippers, but a championship season may have changed his plans.

As fans filled the streets of Toronto the celebrate the team’s title, one fan carrying a houseplant became a viral sensation on social media – and he’s got a brilliant plan to keep Kawhi in Canada.

Plant Guy: “It’s a housewarming gift for Kawhi. He’s staying!”

Reporter: “Does he know this yet?”

Plant Guy: “I’m waiting. Have you seen him? …. Well, when you see him, tell him I’ve got a housewarming gift. Tell him I love him. Tell him thank you for the shot.”

Reporter: “What kind of plant is that?”

Plant Guy: “It’s a plant for Kawhi. It’s a Kawhi plant. It’s a Kawhi cactus. A Kawhactus.”

If Kawhi has a Kawhi plant at home to take care of, there’s no way he could risk relocating it to a potentially harmful climate. If Kawhi re-signs, Plant Guy deserves a ring.
