Rapper who filmed Holby City star's daughter dying after giving her drugs can appeal conviction

A rapper who filmed the daughter of a Holby City star dying after giving her drugs has been given leave to appeal against his manslaughter conviction.

Ceon Broughton, 31, was jailed for eight and a half years in March 2019 over the death of his girlfriend Louella Fletcher-Michie.

The Court of Appeal said he could challenge his conviction.

Louella, 24, was found dead in woodland near the Bestival site in Dorset, after taking the drug 2C-P in September 2017.

Instead of getting help, Broughton filmed his girlfriend, the daughter of Holby's John Michie, as she died just an hour before her 25th birthday.

During the original trial at Winchester Crown Court the prosecution claimed that Broughton had failed to take "reasonable" steps to seek medical help for Louella after giving her the drug.

The jury watched videos taken by the defendant as Louella's condition worsened

Broughton did little to help her for six hours as he feared breaching a suspended jail term, the court heard.

Following a phone call from a distressed Louella, in which she was heard shouting at Broughton, Mr Michie drove with wife Carol to the festival site to try to find her.

They had pleaded with Broughton to get her medical help but he didn't and instead filmed her as her condition worsened.

In a victim impact statement, her father Mr Michie said: "I wake up every morning to face life starting again without Louella, our daughter, our sister, our friend, our family now broken.

"And for what? It makes no sense - our beautiful Louella should still be with us on any measure of humanity.

"No more yoga with my daughter, no more running around the outside of the Arsenal stadium with my daughter.

"Her life cruelly cut short. Our lives forever diminished. She was wise beyond her years and trusting, too trusting it seems."
