Rapper Tekashi69 in federal custody on racketeering, firearm charges

Brooklyn-born rapper Tekashi69 is in federal custody on charges related to racketeering and firearms, federal authorities confirmed Monday.

A spokesman for Manhattan U.S. Attorney said Tekashi, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, was busted along with three others, Kifano (Shotti) Jordan, Jensel (Ish) Butler and Faheem (Crippy) Walter. The racketeering charges relate to Tekashi's self-proclaimed membership in the 9 Trey set of the Bloods gang.

Jordan is Tekashi's former manager.

Walter was charged last month with gang assault in connection with a shooting at a party in Midtown celebrating Tekashi dodging jail time yet again.

The four were arrested as part of a joint investigation by the NYPD, Homeland Security Investigations and ATF, the spokesman said.

Tekashi's legal troubles have accumulated along with his fame. The 22-year-old rapper from Bushwick has been on probation since 2015 for a sex crime involving a 13-year-old.

Last month Justice Felicia Mennin extended Tekashi's probation on that case to four years and increased the amount of community service he must perform from 300 hours to 1,000 hours instead of sending the "Stoopid" rapper to prison. Mennin also ordered Tekashi to stop identifying himself as a gangbanger and submit regular progress reports to the court.

After Mennin's decision, authorities say Tekashi's entourage was involved in the rowdy shooting at Philippe's, a tony Upper East Site restaurant on Madison Ave.

Tekashi also faces misdemeanor assault charges in Houston for allegedly choking a fan in a mall. Earlier this month, gunshots were fired at a Beverly Hills mansion where Tekashi was to film a music video with Kanye West and Nicki Minaj. Around the time of the the incident, Tekashi posted videos to his Instagram _ which boasts 15 million followers _ talking trash about the LA-based rapper Slim 400.

Details of the new charges against Tekashi were not yet available. The four were expected to be presented in court Monday afternoon.

The federal charges will likely impact Tekashi's probation in the sex crime case.
