- Ashley Warren, 41, has been sentenced to 10 years and three months in prison at Chelmsford Crown Court.
- He was jailed after his XL bully dog, Bear, mauled 68-year-old Esther Martin to death at his home in Jaywick, Essex, in February 2024.
- Warren had left Ms Martin, who had mobility issues and little experience with the breed, to mind his two XL bullies and eight puppies while he travelled to London.
- The fatal attack occurred two days after the ban on XL bully dogs came into force in England and Wales, and Warren admitted he did not possess exemption certificates for his dogs.
- Warren was found guilty of being the owner of a dog that caused injury resulting in death while dangerously out of control, and also for possessing a bladed article.
