Rapper J. Cole attends Knicks practice, talks about 'mind space'

NEW YORK _ Grammy winner J. Cole was a guest at Knicks practice on Saturday and spent time afterwards chatting with fan David Fizdale. "He's one of my favorite rappers," the coach said.

J. Cole has a long-standing relationship with Knicks point guard Dennis Smith Jr. as two products of Fayetteville, N.C. He apparently provided life advice to some players, including point guard Frank Ntilikina.

"He was talking about some mind space," Ntilikina said. "Usually people are not always like this. But it was really cool that we can talk and have a conversation with him about how we can do better in this world, either him about music or us about basketball. It was just amazing."

Cole was a former high school standout basketball player and tried to walk on at St. John's but didn't get a run at the Knicks facility.

"Maybe in the summer," Fizdale said.
