Rapper Goonew has been shot dead and his heartbroken mum has issued a message to his killers. He was aged 24.

Police have released details bout the shooting in Maryland and have publicly identified the person who was shot dead on Friday as Markelle Morrow, who is also known as his rapper name, Goonew.

The rapper's mother, Patrice Morrow, told WUSA 9 as she was surrounded by her grieving daughters: "All he wanted to do is try to get his family out the hood.

“He had a heart bigger than his body, when they took him, they took me.”

The family confirmed that Goonew was fatally shot in the back after his watch was stolen by the killer.

The mum continued: "“They took his chain. They took his watch.

"He gave it up and they still shot him in his back."

The rapper was found with gunshot wounds just before 6pm on Friday night by police officers, in a parking lot in District Heights.

The Prince George Police Department have said that the suspect is still at large.

Goonew's mother has said that her son was on his way to give his sister a gift for her birthday when he was killed.

Despite the heartbreaking situation, the rapper's mum told her son's killers: "I forgive you.

"They took my son, hope they got what they wanted.”

Goonew rose to prominence when he released a joint tape, Homicide Boat, with fellow DMV rapper, Lil Dude.

This grabbed the attention of Lil Yatchy, who then collaborated with Goonew, propelling him international fame in the process.

Goonew released his most notable album named Bug 64, which had 11 songs, in July 2018.
