Rapper Ghetts charged over fatal 'hit-and-run' crash in north-east London

The rapper Ghetts has been charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving after a fatal crash in London.

The musician, whose real name is Justin Clarke-Samuel, 41 is accused of failing to stop after hitting a 20-year-old man in Redbridge Lane East, Ilford, on Saturday, 18 October, according to the Met Police.

Clarke-Samuel, who also stars in Netflix drama Supacell, appeared at Stratford Magistrates' Court on Monday, the same day the man died in hospital.

The indictment is expected to change from causing serious injury to causing death by dangerous driving at the next hearing, the BBC reported.

The rapper, from Woodford Green, was remanded into custody and is due to appear at Barkingside Magistrates' Court on Monday, 27 October.

Ghetts, who played Glastonbury last year, has featured alongside Skepta, Stormzy and Ed Sheeran, racking up millions of plays on Spotify.

Clarke-Samuel has toured internationally with Top Bar star and fellow rapper Kano, and was a member of East London British grime group Nasty Crew.
