Rapper George Carpenter named in petrol bombing probe

A rapper surrounded by armed police at Lime Street Station was today named as a suspect after a house was petrol-bombed in the city.

Detectives have now charged George Carpenter following the suspected arson attack in the Edge Hill area two weeks ago.

More details have now emerged about the deliberate fire which happened on Grove Street on July 11.

It caused damage to furniture and curtains inside and three people were inside the property at the time, although they were unharmed.

Carpenter, known to many in the city as "Carpo", was arrested two days after the arson near to Lime Street Station.

Footage circulating online showed the track-suited suspect, 33, being detained in the city centre and placed in handcuffs.

In the widely-viewed clip, officers tell the man: "I'm going to explain to you what's happened...

"...on 11th July, there's been a petrol bomb attack and you're currently a suspect for it.

"There's been an offence which has been identified which needs to be investigated."

Carpenter, of no fixed address, has now been charged with arson with intent to endanger life.

He appeared at Liverpool Magistrates Court today where he was remanded in custody to appear at Liverpool Crown Court next month.
