Rapper Drakeo The Ruler dead after being 'stabbed in the neck' at LA festival

Rapper Drakeo the Ruler has reportedly died from his injuries after being stabbed in the neck at a music festival.

The Once Upon A Time in LA event has been shut down after the terrifying attack on the 28-year-old star, whose real name is Darrell Caldwell.

Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube and 50 Cent were also due to perform at the event.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Drakeo was attacked by a group of people but no one has yet been arrested.

The publication says he as "pretty badly hurt". It's thought he was in the backstage area when the attack took place.

And TMZ later reported that the rapper had died from his injuries, saying multiple unnamed sources had confirmed his passing.

His publicist confirmed his death to several US media outlets on Sunday morning.

The Los Angeles Police Department posted about the incident on Twitter : "There has been an incident at the Once Upon A Time in LA festival at the Banc of California.

"The festival has concluded early. LAPD will be in the area assisting [California Highway Patrol] with the investigation."

And a Live Nation spokesperson said in a statement: "There was an altercation in the roadway backstage.

"Out of respect for those involved and in coordination with local authorities, artists and organisers decided not to move forward with remaining sets so the festival was ended an hour early."

Snoop Dogg, 50, paid tribute to Drakeo on social media.

"I'm saddened by the events that took place last night," he said in a statement posted to his social media accounts.

He added, "My condolences go out to the family and loved ones of Drakeo the Ruler."

"My prayers go out to everyone affected by the tragedy," he shared. "Please take care, love one another and stay safe y'all.

"IM PRAYING FOR PEACE IN HIP HOP."

Snoop also confirmed that he left the festival after hearing abou the incident while in his dressing room.

Hotline Bling hitmaker Drake took to his Instagram Stories to pay his respects.

"Nah man this s— isn't right for real wtf are we doing," the 35-year-old wrote underneath an image of Drakeo decked out in purple Los Angeles Lakers gear.

"Always picked my spirit up with your energy," he added. "RIP Drakeo

It comes just over one month after 10 people were killed at Travis Scott's Astroworld Festival in Texas.

The tragedy unfolded while the rapper, who is expecting his second child with partner Kylie Jenner, was on stage.

Forensic reports carried out by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences found that the victims of the ill-fated event died of accidental compression asphyxia.

Only one of the 10 victims was found to have a contributory cause of death due to "combined toxic effects of cocaine, methamphetamine and ethanol".

Those who died at the event were Danish Baig, 27, Rodolfo Peña, 23, Madison Dubiski, 23, Bharti Shahan, 22, Franco Patiño, 21, Axel Acosta, 21, Jacob Jurinek, 20, Brianna Rodriguez, 16, John Hilgert, 14, and nine-year-old Ezra Blount.
