Rapper Aitch performs surprise gig at Subway in Manchester City Centre

Aitch performed a surprise gig in Manchester City Centre this afternoon - in Subway of all places.

The Moston rapper performed two songs to the lucky fans who managed to make their way into the sandwich shop near Piccadilly railway station.

First up was Learning Curve - followed by the first ever live performance of Party Round My Place.

Aitch then handed out Subway sandwiches he'd made with his own hands to the crowd - apologising to any vegans that they'd be unable to enjoy his own personal sub.

Ben Whitaker works at the Subway on Gateway House. He said that he knew something was happening today - but it wasn't until this morning that he found out it was Aitch performing.

"I loved it. It was a really nice surprise and it's something different. It felt quite unreal to be honest," he said.

When asked how Aitch did at his job, Ben said: "He can start tomorrow if he likes".

The outside of the sandwich shop was rebranded to 'SUBWaitch' shortly before the surprise gig was announced.

Aitch, a long-time Subway fan, said: “I wanted to do an intimate gig for my Manchester crew and thought this would be a cool spot.

"It’s been great, big up Subway for having me down and letting me takeover and be sure to cop an Aitch Sub before they all go.”

Aitch told the world he was performing at Subway on his Instagram.

Hannah Owen was one fan who saw the post straight away. She brought along her friend Caitlin - a student nurse.

"I was at it and I was like 'you need to leave uni right now we're going!'," Hannah said.

Always wanted to know how Aitch has his subs?

The 'Aitch Footlong’ is a cheese toasted Italian B.M.T. (Bigger Meatier Tastier) which contains salami, pepperoni, ham, lettuce, cucumber, sweetcorn, jalapeños and Chipotle Southwest Sauce.

Mays Elansari, Head of Marketing UK & Ireland at Subway said: "When we heard Aitch was a Subway fan we wanted to pull off something special for his fans. What better way to collaborate with Aitch than to rebrand our Subway Manchester Piccadilly store especially for this surprise event and rename his favourite Subway Footlong after him!

"It’s the first time we’ve ever staged a gig in a Subway. Who knows, it might not be the last.”
