Rapper 50 Cent has come under fire after tagging his cognac and champagne brands in a 9/11 tribute post.
On the 20th anniversary of the attacks on Saturday, he tweeted a picture of United Airlines Flight 175 about to strike the South Tower and wrote: “This day will forever be remembered, to those who lost loved ones my condolences. #bransoncognac #lecheminduroi.”

He posted the same image and caption to Instagram.
People were upset that he included the hashtags for Branson cognac and Le Chemin du Roi champagne, with one Twitter user sarcastically remarking: “Everytime I see that 2nd Plane hit I’ll always remember to have a cognac with champagne.” [sic]

Did you seriously fucking hashtag your liquor on a 9/11 post?!?!
— Kenny (@WarlockKenny) September 11, 2021
You really needed to tag your brand and use this picture? Maybe a little class.

This is so disrespectful of those who lost their lives that day and their loved ones who keep their memories alive. Do us all a favor and delete it

Mmmm, nothing better to celebrate a national tragedy than a champagne and cognac.

WTF is the matter with you?
Really? Marketing your liquor? Zero class. ZERO.

my guess is because he’s using 9/11 to promote his(?) cognac https://t.co/3AS2SkEOtQ

Some people didn’t address the hashtags, and thanked him for his condolences:
Thank you. Yesterday wasn’t easy. I lost an uncle and cousin in the South Tower (2 of the 343 FDNY who made the ultimate sacrifice that horrible day).

I remember it like it was yesterday. It's a horrible memory.

His 9/11 post comes just days after an “insensitive” post following the death of The Wire actor Michael K. Williams.
Williams was found dead in New York last Monday, and the New York Post reported that drug paraphernalia was found at the scene. In a now-deleted Instagram post, 50 Cent allegedly wrote: “Damn if you didn’t see Raising Kanan check it out. That fentanyl is no joke, killing the clientele. RIP Michael K Williams.”
Five days ago he reposted a screenshot of a news article about the controversy with the caption: “hey if you didn’t get a chance to see Raising Kanan check it out. Fentanyl is a hell of a drug. #bransoncognac #lecheminduroi”
The rapper isn’t the only one to come under fire on the 20th anniversary of 9/11, with clothing brand Pretty Little Thing also slammed for posting a “branded” tribute on Saturday.
