Rapist Dean Ward and ex garda Paul Moody to serve sentences in Midlands Prison after being caged for vile crimes against women

Two men jailed for their vile crimes against separate women this week are set to serve their sentences in the same prison, the Irish Mirror can reveal.

Rapist Dean Ward will be locked up in the Midlands Prison while disgraced former garda Paul Moody is already there.

Ward, 36, was sentenced to 17 years on Thursday for the repeated rape and assault as well as the four counts of assault along with coercive control over of Donegal woman Sinead O’Neill in 2019.

Sources said Ward will be placed in the Midlands Prison because of the sexual nature of some of his crimes.

Moody, who was jailed for over three years for the coercive control of a terminally ill woman, was initially brought to Mountjoy Prison following the conclusion of his case at Dublin’s Central Criminal Court on Tuesday.

But at lunchtime yesterday, he was transferred to the Midlands.

Prison chiefs were concerned that as a former garda - only resigning from the force following his sentence this week - he would be targeted by hardened criminals in Mountjoy, where many Kinahan cartel members.

Moody, 42 and of St Raphaels Manor, Celbridge, Kildare, will be kept in isolation there for the foreseeable future.

A source said: "They're certainly two horrible creatures but there are different reasons for housing them in the Midlands.

"Ward will end up there because he is a sex offender and most of them in the country end up there when they are imprisoned.

"But Moody's case causes a headache because he is a security concern, not because of his potential own behaviour but with the fear that others could attack him because he's an ex-cop."

The Midlands Prison is home to some of Ireland's most evil sex offenders, including former RTE producer and paedo Kieran Creaven.
